Ladder & Stepladder Inspection course

Course content and requirment

Course Title Ladder & Stepladders Inspection Duration Minimum of 4 hours Who will benefit from this course? Those whose duty is to inspect and maintain ladders & stepladders in their workplace Learning Objectives

Delegates will be competent to:

  • Assess and determine when it’s appropriate to inspect a ladder or stepladder

  • Record finding & recommend action to be taken if faults are found

  • Accurately record details of ladders & stepladders

They will have an understanding of:

  • What they need to know about the law and standards relating to ladders & stepladders

  • Storage & handling of ladders & stepladders

Method The course is planned to run over a minimum or 4 hours

Training Activity

  • Slide led – trainer providing information and asking questions

  • A group exercise on inspections & hazard analysis

  • An individual questionnaire on inspection of Ladders & Stepladders

Assessment Process
There are assessment activities:

  1. Multiple Choice Questions

  2. Ladder / Stepladders fault finding

  3. Carrying, positioning ladders & stepladders


Assessment   
Closed book course with a pass mark of 80%
PPE   
Suitable head / footwear and gloves during the practical session
Course ContentCurrent Legislation, Code of Practice, Regulations and Guidance affecting work at height
Trainer /delegate ratioMaximum of 1:8
Venue RequirementsA suitable classroom and practical area to accommodate 8 delegates for the theory and assessment sessions
Supporting DocumentsLadder Association summary notes for each delegate
AwardA Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory and practical assessment sessions at the level they attend the course. This has a five year validity period
Literacy, fitness & HealthDelegates must be numerate, literate and have a good command of English. They should be fit and capable of lifting, carrying and manoeuvring ladders and stepladders during the inspection process
Qualifications & experienceMust hold a valid Ladder Association Users certificate and LadderCard to attend this course
